Mokokchung: ATMA Kobulong organises demonstrations on tomato, pre-kharif and pig farming

The Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Kobulong Block, Mokokchung conducted a series of programmes at Molungkong and Molongkong under Mopungchuket village on February 17 and 21, focusing on crop and livestock development.

On February 21, ATMA organised a demonstration on scientific cultivation practices of tomato at Molungkong to introduce an improved variety. Temjeninla Longkumer, Assistant Technology Manager, Kobulong Block, highlighted the importance of establishing effective nursery beds to ensure optimal growth and yield. She explained raising healthy seedlings in seed trays and transplanting on raised beds for better drainage and root development. The session also covered proper spacing, mulching with straw or dry leaves, intercultural operations, and pest and disease management. Farmers took part in preparing nursery beds and seedling trays. Tomato seeds, coco peat, vermicompost, seed trays and neem oil were distributed to the three participating farmers.

On the same day, a Kisan Gosthi on sustainable pre-kharif crop management was held at Molongkong. Samuel, Assistant Chief Technical Officer in Agronomy from Krishi Vigyan Kendra Tuensang, emphasised location-specific crop planning, careful sowing, mulching, irrigation at critical stages, integration of livestock, fodder cultivation, soil testing and compost preparation. Garden rakes and post-harvest bags were distributed to 15 farmers.

Earlier, on February 17, ATMA conducted a demonstration on AAUVETMIN supplementation for pig farmers from Longjang village, Mopungchuket and Sungratsu village. Dr Sarendi, Assistant Chief Technical Officer in Veterinary Science from Krishi Vigyan Kendra, explained the benefits and correct dosage of the supplement and demonstrated methods of measuring body weight in pigs. AAUVETMIN supplements were distributed to three participating farmers.
