Mokokchung, 18 July (MTNews): Taking cognizance of the growing menace of drug abuse and peddling of contraband items in the town in recent times, the All Ward Union Mokokchung Town (AWUMT) has sounded alarm to all citizens and the 18 ward authorities of Mokokchung to remain vigilant.
“Sale and use of drugs and all other contraband items in Mokokchung Town is strictly prohibited,” the AWUMT decreed, while informing all the citizens and ward authorities to remain vigilant. The AWUMT further warned that stern action would be taken against defaulters.
In a public statement issued by AWUMT president Limanungsang and secretary Jongpongtemjen, it was informed that the decision to this effect was made during the President Council meeting of AWUMT held on 17 July.
Furthermore, the AWUMT expressed its appreciation to the Mokokchung Police for nabbing illegal drug peddlers in the town and requested the law enforcing authority to book the culprit as per relevant sections of the law. AWUMT further urged the authorities to continue to initiate strong measures to stop and control such anti-social activities in the town.
The AWUMT also strongly condemned those people involved and stated that befitting punishment will be awarded in due course of time.
