The All Ward Union Mokokchung Town (AWUMT) has officially responded to the news report published by Mokokchung Times on July 12, 2025, titled “When development becomes a lie: Inside Mokokchung’s LADP files.”

In a press release dated July 23, the AWUMT stated that “the attention of the AWUMT has been drawn to the news report,” and that during its Presidential Council meeting held on July 22, it “deliberated on the matter raised in the news report and took cognizance of the seriousness of the issue.”

According to the press release, the AWUMT resolved in the meeting that “henceforth, all Local Area Development Programme (LADP) and other developmental works carried out in the 18 wards of Mokokchung town must be undertaken in consultation with the respective local ward authorities.”

The AWUMT also called for greater accountability from officials tasked with overseeing development works. It asserted that “the authorities responsible for the supervision and issuance of completion certificates for LADP and other development works in the 18 wards of Mokokchung town must act with sincerity,” and warned that “any discrepancies arising later will be the sole responsibility of the issuing authority.”

Reaffirming its commitment to public welfare, the AWUMT stressed that “all LADP and other development works in the 18 wards of Mokokchung town are for the benefit of the people.” Therefore, it maintained, “the local ward authorities, being the immediate stakeholders, must be taken into confidence.”

The statement was jointly signed by AWUMT President Lemasashi and Secretary Lanuwapang.
