The Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) began collecting vehicle parking fees within the municipal limits of Mokokchung town from today, July 14, 2025. The initiative, implemented under Part IV, Chapter 1, Section 124 of the Nagaland Municipal Act 2023, is aimed at supporting municipal duties and functions. This marks the first time the MMC has introduced a structured parking fee system in the town.
A fee of Rs10 per hour is being charged for vehicles parked in six designated zones between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM daily.
Speaking on the first day of implementation, MMC Deputy Chairman Lanuakum described the rollout as “very successful.” He confirmed that no formal complaints had been received and noted an “overwhelmingly positive response and cooperation” from the public. Acknowledging the support of residents, Lanuakum added that the MMC welcomes constructive feedback, which may be submitted at the MMC office during working hours.
More than 20 collectors have been deployed to manage parking fee collection across the six designated zones.
