A children’s book titled “Enoski and Friends”, written by Sashinungla Nathan, was launched at Aor Coffee, Mokokchung on Tuesday. This marks the author’s debut publication. The dedicatory prayer for the book was offered by Shilula Imchen, Pastor (Women) of MTBA.

The book, illustrated by Keneisenuo Solo, follows a cheerful little dog and his friends as they explore the world around them, learning about friendship, sharing, and helping one another. Written with early learners in mind, “Enoski and Friends” seeks to nurture imagination and kindness in young readers while celebrating the joy of storytelling. The book also includes a “color the picture” page to make reading more interactive for children.

The author, dedicating the book to her daughter Aliaaben, shared that the story was born out of their bedtime storytelling sessions. “We made up this story night after night, our heads sharing a pillow, our imaginations wide awake. This book is our memory — written so we never forget the magic we made,” she wrote in her note.

The book was formally released by Limalenden Longkumer, Editor of Mokokchung Times. Congratulating the author, he described her as a hardworking and multifaceted young woman and encouraged her to continue writing, observing that Mokokchung “lacks writers of all kinds.” He said that the absence of writers reflects an “intellectual deficiency” and a lack of “chroniclers of the town.”

Speaking on the importance of introducing children to reading, Longkumer noted that while many lament children’s screen time, the real issue lies in adults failing to introduce them to books. “Children love reading, but they need guidance,” he said, adding that it is encouraging to see a local author creating literature for young readers.

He also envisaged that people of Mokokchung should support one another for collective progress, suggesting that this begins by supporting local creators, such as by buying the book of a homegrown writer.
