The Mokokchung District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) successfully conducted a large-scale mock drill simulating a 6.9-magnitude earthquake in the town on October 24, 2024. The exercise was part of the Nagaland Emergency Preparedness Exercise (NEPEx), a statewide mega mock drill organized by the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
The designated staging area was set up at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, where an Emergency Medical Camp was established to provide medical aid to the injured victims transported from the incident sites. Machineries and personnel were deployed in response to incident reports, and Incident Response Teams (IRT) were set up at the staging area.
After the mock drill exercises were completed at the staging area, the Incident Commander demobilized the IRT. This was followed by remarks from the Chief Observer, who shared observations of the exercise. Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, Thsuvisie Phoji, in his concluding remarks, mentioned that the mock drill was successfully conducted due to the active participation of all designated officials, personnel, departments, and volunteers from various NGOs and schools. He also added that while the overall response was good, there is a need to be more practical when carrying out assigned responsibilities.
