In a major push to promote local talent and economic self-reliance, Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS, has constituted a specialised Sub-committee under the District Skill Committee, Mokokchung.
The committee has been formed to promote skill development, entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihood opportunities through coordinated efforts of key local stakeholders. The notification takes immediate effect and will remain in force until further orders.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung, will serve as Convener, while T Imlisunep Ao, Principal of Government ITI, Mokokchung, is the Member Secretary.
Members include Lipokonen Jamir, Joint Director, SARS, and President, Mokokchung Ao Officers Telongjem; Dr P. Tiatemsu, Associate Professor, Fazl Ali College; the President of Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM); the Youth Secretary, ABAM, Impur; Lanuakum, Deputy Chairperson, Mokokchung Municipal Council; a representative of Ao Lanur Telongjem; Lanusenla, Principal, ICIT Mokokchung; Lucy Lhousineino, District Employment Officer, Mokokchung; and the SDO (C)/EAC (Development).
According to the notification, the committee has been entrusted with a comprehensive mandate to strengthen the district’s socio-economic development. It will identify district-specific skill gaps and map emerging livelihood opportunities that align with local economic potential.
The committee will also promote convergence among government departments, educational institutions, industry bodies and community organisations. It will encourage innovation, entrepreneurship and market-oriented vocational training, with special emphasis on empowering youth and women. In addition, it will work to preserve and commercialise traditional skills, local crafts and indigenous knowledge.
To ensure accountability, the Sub-committee will meet at least once every month. It will assess ground realities, benchmark best practices and submit monthly progress reports, including its activities, findings and recommendations, to the Office of the Deputy Commissioner. With the approval of the Chairperson, the committee may also co-opt subject matter experts and representatives of departments as special invitees to address specific development priorities.
