Following the recent altercation among students of Queen Mary Higher Secondary School in Mokokchung, the video of which went viral, the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Child Welfare Committee, and Child Helpline Mokokchung convened a meeting with the concerned school authority and discipline committee.

The students involved were reportedly suspended for a 15-day period. However, considering the potential impact of prolonged suspension on the students’ mental health and academic performance, the three organizations requested the school authority to reconsider the duration of the suspension, a source said.

Additionally, the DCPU, Child Welfare Committee, and Child Helpline Mokokchung visited the local police station to discuss the matter and obtain permission to provide counseling services to the suspended students at the DCPU office, the source added.

Meanwhile, in a notice sent to parents of the thirteen students involved in the matter, the DCPU informed that counselors from the DCPU and Child Helpline will provide counseling to the suspended students, including those involved in the altercation and the three students who recorded and shared the incident on social media.

This collaborative effort aims to address the incident’s aftermath, support the students’ well-being, and promote a safe and conducive learning environment, the source said.
