Mokokchung, 20 February (MTNews): The Mokokchung District Gaon Bura Association (MDGBA) Hall was inaugurated on 20 February with Tongpang Ozükum, Advisor, Water Resources, as the inaugural guest.
In his speech, Advisor Tongpang praised and acknowledged the Gaon Buras (GBs) for their hard work in completing the GB’s Hall. He emphasized the significance of the Naga Village and Area Council Act of 1978 and shed light on the functions of the GBs.
Stressing the foundational role of the GB institution, he reminded everyone that GBs serve as bridges between the government and the grassroots. Furthermore, he highlighted the expectations for GBs to exhibit good behavior, good character, and honesty in their dealings while performing their duties.
He emphasized that the uniform they wear is a symbol of respect, and they should honor it. Tongpang also encouraged GBs to support younger administrative officers with their customary wisdom and knowledge as needed.
The Construction Committee provided a report on the construction of the new GB Hall. Short speeches were delivered by the Kichu clan, Mokokchung Village, and Thsüvisie Phoji, Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung Along Jamir, President of the Mokokchung District GB Association expressed gratitude to all groups, individuals, families, and associations who contributed in cash and kind towards the successful completion of the construction of the hall.
