The Mokokchung Dobashi (DB) observed the Tsungremmung festival on August 1 at the residence of Alemtetba, Political Assistant to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Mokokchung, in Arkong Ward. This year’s celebration was particularly significant as it marked the first time in over 20 years that the DBs celebrated the festival together along with wives and children.
The event featured Bendangla Jamir as the speaker of the day. Jamir expressed gratitude to the current leadership for including the wives and children of the DBs in the celebration, providing them with the opportunity to participate in the festivities. According to the women gathered, the unity observed in this year’s celebration was a heartfelt return to tradition after many years.
In her address, Mrs Jamir urged the leaders to practice humility and righteousness, emphasizing the importance of treating all people equally, regardless of their socioeconomic status and to judge fairly.
The Deputy Commissioner and Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Mokokchung were also in attendance. Imliyanger, Political Assistant to the DC, who is set to retire later this year, delivered the vote of thanks. The program was chaired by Suboienla Lemtur.
The DB’s court contributed to the celebration with a rendition of the Tsungremmung song, adding to the cultural richness of the event.
