Mokokchung DPDB discusses development agendas, spreads festive joy

The Mokokchung District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) held its December meeting cum Advent Christmas programme on December 11, 2024, at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall. The meeting, chaired by the Chairman of Mokokchung DPDB and Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Sharingain Longkumer, was attended by MLA and Advisor for Sericulture and Minority Affairs, Imkongmar, along with other officials.

During the meeting, the minutes of the previous session were reviewed, and updates were shared. Deputy Commissioner Mokokchung and Vice Chairman DPDB, Thsuvisie Phoji, informed the members about the visit of the Minister of State for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, on November 19, 2024, and highlighted the successful conduct of the 2nd Cherry Blossom Festival at Longkum Village, which showcased the district’s potential for eco-tourism. Discussions emphasized Mokokchung’s untapped tourism potential and the need to organize festivals aligned with the Hornbill Festival to attract more visitors to the region.

On infrastructure matters, the agenda for the blacktopping of the diversion road at Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital (IMDH) was addressed, with the Chairman assuring prompt action. The house also approved the registration of the Environment and Economic Society from Kelingmen Village, Mokokchung, forwarding it to the concerned authorities.

The chairman acknowledged ongoing efforts to improve road connectivity along NH-02 and the construction of new infrastructure at IMDH, urging collective participation to enhance the district’s unique identity and visitor experience.

A strong emphasis was placed on ensuring uninterrupted public services during the festive season. Sharingain Longkumer directed all line departments to plan their leaves responsibly and maintain a proper system to avoid any inconvenience to the public. Vice Chairman Thsuvisie Phoji echoed the need for essential service departments to create rosters and routines to ensure continuous service delivery.

Newly joined officers in Mokokchung district were introduced during the session.

The meeting concluded with an Advent Christmas programme chaired by Er. Lanusenla, Principal of ICIT, Mokokchung. Rev. Dr. Tekatemjen, President of NEALEAST, delivered the Christmas message, and Advisor Imkongmar extended greetings to the gathering. A song was performed by Chubala Longchar and friend, while the invocation prayer was led by Dr. Wati Imchen, Principal of FAC. The programme also included an exchange of Christmas gifts among board members, facilitated by Vitolou Chisi, EAC, HQ Mokokchung, fostering camaraderie and festive spirit.
