Mokokchung DPDB felicitates HSLC/HSSLC toppers; cleanest ward awards presented

Mokokchung’s monthly District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) meeting on Wednesday brought together recognition of academic excellence, civic responsibility and development planning, as HSLC and HSSLC toppers from the district were felicitated, Cleanest Ward Awards were presented, and key proposals on education and cooperative growth were approved.

MLA Nuklutoshi Longkumer, Deputy Commissioner Mokokchung Ajit Kumar Verma, officials and HSLC and HSSLC Examination 2026 awardees during the DPDB meeting-cum-felicitation programme held at the DC’s Conference Hall, Mokokchung, on May 13.

The meeting was held at the DC’s Conference Hall under the chairmanship of MLA and DPDB Chairman Nuklutoshi Longkumer.

The program began with the felicitation of top-performing students from the HSLC and HSSLC examinations, with Class X and XII top three rank holders from Mokokchung district receiving cash awards sponsored by the DPDB. First position holders received Rs 10,000 each, second position holders Rs 7,000 each, and third position holders Rs 5,000 each.

Among the district’s achievers in the HSLC examination, Imnayangla of St Mary’s Residential School, Alichen secured the 8th position, while several students from Ladybird School, Queen Mary Higher Secondary School, Baptist Higher Secondary School Mangolemba and Christian Standard Higher Secondary School Changtongya also secured top state rankings.

In the HSSLC category, students from PM SHRI Mayangnokcha Government Higher Secondary School, Queen Mary Higher Secondary School and GHSS Tuli were recognised across Science, Arts and Commerce streams.

The meeting also marked the presentation of the Cleanest Ward Award 2025–26, the first such initiative undertaken by the DPDB.

Under Mokokchung Municipal Council, Alempang Ward secured first position and received Rs 30,000, Salangtem Ward secured second with Rs 20,000, while Kichutip Ward secured third with Rs 10,000.

Under Changtongya Town Council, PWD Ward secured first position and Church Ward secured second.

Under Tuli Town Council, Longpong Ward secured first position while Aitlenden Ward secured second.

Under Mangolemba Town Council, Satihit Ward secured first position and Hokiyong Ward secured second.

For town councils, first position winners received Rs 25,000 each while second position winners received Rs 15,000.

Beyond awards and recognitions, the board also approved the registration of the MI Small Tea Growers Cooperative Society, Saringyim, and recommended the upgradation of Green Hills Public School, Chuchuyimlang from middle school to high school.

The board further deliberated on preparations for the 25th edition of the Dr T Ao Trophy, scheduled for October 2026, with Deputy Commissioner Ajit Kumar Verma appealing for full cooperation from all departments to ensure the milestone sporting event’s success.

Verma also informed the house that the district administration is considering instituting a District Teachers Award to recognise educators, while stressing the need for better departmental coordination and efficient resource management.

The DPDB meeting also heard from Fazl Ali College Principal, who highlighted the institution’s achievements and sought continued support.
