Mokokchung, 11 December (MTNews): The Mokokchung District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) in its monthly meeting for December 2023 resolved to recommend the recognition of Ungma (Soyim) village as a ‘heritage village’. It may be mentioned here that Ungma is the biggest Ao Naga village.
Earlier, the Deputy Commissioner and Vice Chairman of Mokokchung DPDB, Thsuvisie Phoji, welcomed all the members with festive greetings. The meeting was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference hall.
Addressing the agenda, members reviewed the minutes of the last meeting and raised concerns about the conditions of the two-lane route between DEF Police Church to Yisemyong along NH-2, which might pose hazards for travelers during the festive season. In response, the EE (NH) assured that all precautions are taken for general safety.
A report on the successful conduct of the first Mokokchung District inter-departmental sports tournament was presented by the organizing committee during the meeting. In this regard, the house decided to make this an annual event.
The Board also recommended recognizing Ungma (Soyim) village as a ‘heritage village’ along with the upgrading of Government High School Dilong and Government High School Changtongya (B) to Higher Secondary School, to the concerned authorities.
The DPDB also held a Christmas Advent program at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference hall. DC & Vice Chairman DPDB, Mokokchung Thsuvisie Phoji, shared Christmas greetings with all the members of the board. Principal ITI, Mokokchung, Er Imlisunep, delivering a message on “Christmas to me,” said, “Let this Christmas celebration be a guiding star for all the members to be a blessing to our community.”
The program was led by Dr Sentitula, DFO, Mkg, while the invocation was pronounced by Jamonger, ADS. The gathering was enthralled with a special song from Punen and Wapangla.
