An injured owl was rescued in Longjang village, Mokokchung, today, with one of its eyes severely injured. Despite the successful rescue, locals were initially unsure of where to take the owl for treatment. There are no veterinary services in the village, located about 40 km from Mokokchung town.

Fortunately, as per sources, the news reached the Wildlife Warden Dimapur, Tokaho Kinimi IFS who then promptly contacted the rescuers and arranged for the owl to be picked up from Longjang village tomorrow morning. “Hopefully, by noon, it can be properly cared for at the zoo,” a source said.

The bird, apparently a juvenile Asian barred owlet, seemed distressed.

The bird was found in the bushes while some staff were clearing the premises of the Primary Health Centre (PHC) Longjang on Thursday.
