The last of the group stage matches of the ongoing Mokokchung Inter Ward Football Tournament 2023 was played today with Majakong and Tongdentsuyong wards winning their respective games.
In the first match of the day, Majakong ward defeated Kumlong ward by a solitary goal scored by Putimeren in the 9th minute of the match. With the win, Majakong qualified as leaders of Pool C and will face Pool D runners-up Tongdentsuyong in the quarterfinals. Kumlong are now out of the tournament and Lijaba Lijen qualifies as their group runners-up.
Tongdentsuyong defeated Yimyu ward 4-2 to join Sangtemla ward in qualifying for the quarterfinals from Pool D. A brace from Wapongtemjen and a goal each by Tarepnungsang and Opanglemzung ensured Tongdentsuyong’s quarterfinal berth in the last match of the group stage played today. Yimyu could score only two goals, which came through the boots of Maongonen and Moarenba, and it marked the end of their campaign in the tournament.
Tongdentsuyong will face Pool C toppers Majakong ward in the quarterfinals. All four quarterfinal matches will be played at Imkongmeren Sports Complex on Monday, 17 April.
