The Indian Red Cross Society Mokokchung Branch celebrated International Red Cross Day at the CMO Conference Hall, Mokokchung, on May 8, 2025, under the theme “On the Side of Humanity.”
Welcoming the participants, Dr. S.S. Akaba Longchar, Honorary Secretary of IRCS Mokokchung, stated that the Indian Red Cross Society upholds the cause of service to humanity. He lauded the faculty, Junior Red Cross volunteers from schools, and members of the IRCS for their continuous participation in serving humanity, which, he noted, was the purpose of the observation.
Shri Chumlamo Humtsoe, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, emphasized the significance of the observation and praised the Red Cross volunteers. He remarked, “The spirit of free service exhibited by these volunteers is worthy of praise and recognition.”
He further stated that even in governmental programs and initiatives, voluntary participation from the community plays a crucial role in the development of the state. He mentioned that the members of the Red Cross Society present a notable example of volunteering—’volunteering without asking anything in return.’ He urged the members and participants to always uphold the seven fundamental principles of the Red Cross: Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity, and Universality.
A total of six schools from Mokokchung district participated in the observation, with 77 volunteers, exclusive of members from IRCS Mokokchung.
IRCS members, led by Dr. Sentizungla Marina Yaden, Chief Medical Officer of Mokokchung and Vice Chairman of IRCS Mokokchung Branch, along with Junior Red Cross members and the teacher in charge, participated in the observation.
