The Japukong Students’ Conference (JKM) has extended its “firm solidarity and support” to the Chungtia Students’ Union (CSU) over the ongoing construction of the 50-bedded Integrated AYUSH Hospital at Sabangya, Mokokchung district.
In a statement issued under the headline ”Public Safety Cannot Be Compromised”, JKM said the concerns raised by CSU were “urgent and legitimate,” stressing that “public safety, structural integrity, and the people’s right to proper healthcare cannot be side-lined for any reason.”
The students’ bodies have flagged serious lapses in the project, which was sanctioned at a cost of Rs 442.91 lakh. According to CSU’s ultimatum, “the hospital project with an allocated amount of 442.91 lakhs has seen only 65% progress even after more than six years.”
CSU further alleged “serious deficiencies in workmanship and the compromised quality of construction already observed,” which they warned raised “grave concerns regarding the structural safety, durability, and long-term serviceability of the building.”
The ultimatum demanded that all construction activities be suspended immediately until a proper assessment is done, and that a joint technical inspection be carried out within 10 days by departmental personnel in the presence of the union. The inspection, CSU said, “must include Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity Test, Rebound Hammer Test, and Core Cut Sampling, among other methods, to ensure that the construction meets the required standards.”
Echoing this stand, JKM categorically stated: “The matter must not be ignored or delayed any further.” The organisation also assured that it would fully support CSU in pursuing the issue “until the project is completed in accordance with the highest standards of quality and safety, thereby ensuring that the people of Mokokchung district and beyond receive the healthcare facility they rightfully deserve.”
