The Japukong Students’ Conference (JKM) has urged the Government and concerned authorities to urgently construct a new school building for Noklangsangba Government High School at Lirmen following severe landslides that damaged the school premises on July 19.
The JKM president, along with executive members, visited the school on July 27 to assess the situation. During the visit, the team held a meeting with the Lirmen Village Council to discuss the extent of the damage and possible measures to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment for students.
According to JKM, the assessment found that the school cannot continue functioning at its present location as the land has become highly unstable. It said there was a significant possibility of further ground subsidence, posing a serious threat to students, teachers and other staff.
JKM stated that continuing educational activities at the existing site could put lives at considerable risk. With the summer break nearing its end, the students’ body said there was an urgent need for a new school building despite temporary alternative arrangements being put in place.
In view of the damage to the school building and the risks posed by the unstable ground, JKM appealed to the Government and concerned authorities to take immediate notice of the situation and initiate construction of a new school building at the earliest.
The students’ body stressed that the matter should be treated with urgency so that students can resume their education in a safe and suitable environment without further delay.
