Super Seniors, a team of senior football players from Mokokchung in collaboration with Trebuchet FC, a team from the +35 Mokokchung Football League, have announced their sponsorship of a free football coaching camp in Waromung village, starting January 2024. This announcement follows a friendly match played between club members and the youngsters of Waromung village at the Waromung Village Ground.
When asked about the choice of Waromung, they explained that their initiative extends beyond this village; they plan to gradually visit every village. “It is a long-term plan,” one of the members stated. “Waromung is the first village because we have close ties with some of its youth, and they showed interest in participating in such a coaching camp,” the member told Mokokchung Times.
The primary objective of this free football coaching camp, according to the member, is to scout talent at the village level.
“We believe interested people in town can avail the opportunity offered by the coaching camps and clinics in the town but the same opportunity is not seen in rural areas,” the member added. As for the coaching staff, the member mentioned that they are still under discussion but shared their vision of identifying deserving talents and sponsoring them to enroll in a football academy.
This announcement comes at a time when the Mokokchung football community has been expressing concerns about the absence of ‘homegrown talents’ representing Mokokchung at the district level.
