A man impersonating a police officer was arrested at Watiyongpang check gate in Mokokchung in a late-night operation, after he was found transporting illegal liquor in a vehicle marked with a “POLICE” sign.
According to a statement issued by the Additional Superintendent of Police & PRO, Mokokchung, the incident took place on 15 July at around 12:30 am when “1 (one) Indica vehicle (white colour) bearing registration No AS 03 H922A was intercepted at Watiyongpang check gate.”
The police noted that “in the windshield of the car it is written as POLICE.” Upon checking, a large quantity of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) was discovered “concealed inside the car.” The seized items included: MC Rum (750 ml) – 02 Cases; MC Rum (180 ml) – 12 Cases; AC Black Whiskey (180 ml) – 01 Case; and Kingfisher Beer – 04 Cases.
The accused has been identified as “Dipankar Gogoi S/o Surya Gogoi of Hati Muria Gaong (village) under Sivsagar District (Assam).”
Authorities confirmed that Dipankar Gogoi is “serving as driver in Fire Emergency Service, Assam HQ Panbazar Guwahati,” but during the time of apprehension, “he was wearing Police uniform and impersonating as Inspector from Assam Police.”
Following his arrest, “the consignment were seized” and “a regular case has been registered under BNS/MV Act/NLTP Act for further investigation,” the statement said.
The case is currently under investigation by Mokokchung Police.
