Ghunavi Aye, contractor from the firm M/s Affluent Enterprises & Services, overseeing the Mokokchung-Mariani road project, assured that Phase 3, involving ‘soiling,’ would begin shortly. This statement came during an on-site inspection by Ao Senden, along with representatives from the Ao Lanur Telongjem and Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem, to assess the condition of the vital road linking Mokokchung to Mariani (Assam) on Monday, February 24, 2025. The contractor highlighted that Phases 1 and 2 had already been completed, with Phase 3 set to start once “official communications” from Guwahati are finalized.

Ao Senden leaders, along with representatives from the Ao Lanur Telongjem, Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem, Truckers Union, and government officials, after inspecting the vital Mokokchung-Mariani Road (NH-702D) on Monday, February 24.

The Mariani-Mokokchung road, officially known as National Highway 702 D, is a vital lifeline for the people of Mokokchung district. Over the years, this crucial economic route has remained in a poor condition, hampering the well-being of commuters, particularly the truckers ferrying essential commodities.

During the inspection, the Ao Senden team stopped at Changki village, where the Changki Village Council warmly received the entourage and shared their views on the condition of National Highway 702 D. The Council expressed concern about the drainage system and requested proper construction to ensure all-weather road conditions.

On their part, the PWD (National Highway) Mokokchung Division assured that the work would be completed by March 14 and solicited the support of all.

Ao Senden Vice President, Tinukaba, speaking to the contractor, government officials, and others, emphasized that all works—whether it be black-topping or drainage construction—should be completed in a time-bound manner. He highlighted the approaching monsoon season, which could severely impact developmental works, and expressed dissatisfaction with the current drainage system. He urged the contractor to ensure the road remains motorable throughout the year.

Representatives from the Truckers Union, who were part of the entourage, also voiced their concern about the drainage system. They specifically requested the contractor and the government to address the issue, as truckers often face hardships during the monsoon season.

In response to these concerns, contractor Ghunavi Aye gave a positive assurance, stating that all remaining tasks would be completed without delay, even extending the contract despite the project’s official deadline of March 14, 2025.

The Ao Senden team was accompanied by representatives from the state government, including the EAC of Ongpangkong Block, Dobashis, the Mangkolemba Sub-division SDO and Executive Engineer of National Highways Mokokchung Division, Er Limatoshi.
