As the polling day draws closer, the Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI) on Sunday appealed to all political parties, candidates, voters, and stakeholders to remain calm and participate in the democratic process responsibly, with the future and welfare of the people in mind.

As the four urban local bodies in the district – Mokokchung town, Mangkolemba, Changtongya, and Tuli – go to the polls on June 26, MCCI urged all the voters to remember that they are instituting local self-governance.
“The future of your towns is literally in your hands. Vote judiciously, prayerfully, and with a clear conscience,” MCCI said.

The MCCI also appealed to the concerned authorities to ensure that adequate security measures are in place to prevent any potential violence and to ensure free and fair elections.

“We will be closely observing the proceedings, and the authorities will be held responsible for any security lapses in the district,” the MCCI cautioned.

Further, the MCCI appealed to members of the business community to be more cautious than ever as they cast their valuable votes. “As business people, although we may individually have personal leanings and political affiliations, we must be prudent enough to look beyond the immediate and foresee the future, voting accordingly. Let us elect municipal and town council members who will safeguard the interests of the business community,” the business body said.

Call for fostering MMC-MCCI relationship

With particular reference to Mokokchung town, one of the three municipalities in Nagaland, the MCCI said that the business community has been shouldering the responsibility of sustaining the erstwhile Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) all these years. Stating that there is a symbiotic relationship between the MMC and the MCCI, the business body said that this relationship must be maintained for mutual benefit and in the interest of the upkeep of the town.

The MCCI expressed hope that the newly elected members of the MMC will continue to foster this bond.
