Jubilee Memorial School (JMS) defeated Ladybird School (LBS) in a closely contested T20 match on October 20, bringing a two-day U-16/U-19 cricket coaching camp organised by the Mokokchung District Cricket Association (MDCA) to a close.
Held on October 19 and 20, the camp drew approximately 30 young cricketers and aimed to promote grassroots cricket by providing participants with structured coaching and valuable exposure to competitive match experience. The camp was conducted under the supervision of Lanusanen and Merenkaba, assisted by Moatemshi, Olemjung and Imnawapang, who guided and trained the participants.
The official T20 match between LBS and JMS on the second day proved to be a closely fought contest that kept players and spectators engaged until the final moments.
Winning the toss, LBS elected to bat and posted 114 runs. Shisasunep scored 29 runs, while Temsujung contributed 18. LBS made a strong start, reaching 103 for three in the first 10 overs, but JMS staged an impressive comeback after the drinks break, taking crucial wickets to restrict the total to 114.
JMS bowler Imdang was the standout performer, claiming four wickets, including a hat-trick, in a maiden over. His spell proved instrumental in bringing JMS back into the contest.
Chasing 115, JMS began confidently but lost its opening partnership in the fourth over. Another breakthrough left the team three wickets down by the sixth over.
With the match finely balanced, Imtinok and Dombou rebuilt the innings through a 77-run partnership. Imtinok scored 33 runs and Dombou made 44, bringing JMS within reach of victory.
LBS tightened its bowling in the closing stages, with its spinners particularly economical, restricting JMS largely to singles and doubles. The contest went into the final over, with JMS needing just two runs from the last three balls. JMS eventually crossed the finish line to secure victory.
Imdang was presented the Match Ball for taking four consecutive wickets in a maiden over, while Dombou received the Man of the Match award for his 44 runs and one wicket.
The match showcased determination, teamwork and sportsmanship, highlighting the potential of young cricketers in the district.
The MDCA expressed gratitude to LBS and JMS for their enthusiastic participation and cooperation. It also acknowledged the coaches, support personnel and all others who contributed to the success of the two-day coaching camp and official match.
