Mokokchung: Minor raped; Accused apprehended

In a deeply disturbing incident, a three-and-a-half-year-old girl from Saring village, Mokokchung, was reportedly raped on the night of August 10. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community.

The accused has been apprehended, and the police have relocated him to Mokokchung district headquarters to facilitate the investigation and gather more details about the case. The accused has been sent for a medical examination. The victim’s family is reported to have left for Mokokchung for medical examination.

The police have assured that further details will be released by August 12 once the investigation is completed.

Meanwhile, the Nokpu Students Union, while condemning the “heinous act” identified the alleged perpetrator as one Moakaba Aier of Lirmen (Akumen) village, Mokokchung.

The student body also appealed to the investigating authority to investigate with utmost integrity and fairness without any bias, adding that the accused must face the severest punishment for is alleged crime and deliver justice to the victim without any delay.

“We also appeal and request all the concerned to respect the privacy of the aggrieved family and desist from sharing any information or details which may be misleading, regarding the issue except by the competent authorities if and when needed as per judicial requirements,” the Nokpu Students’ Union added.
