The Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) has issued a directive warning all human pharmacies within its jurisdiction against the unauthorized sale of veterinary medicines and commercial animal feeds.
In a notification issued by Atsungba Walling, ADC & CEO of MMC, the council stated that several pharmacies licensed to sell human pharmaceutical products have been found engaging in the retail of veterinary medicines and animal feeds without proper authorization. The practice, it said, violates prescribed norms that mandate such products be sold only through licensed veterinary pharmacies or designated retail outlets.
The MMC expressed concern that the unauthorized sale of veterinary items poses risks related to regulatory non-compliance, public safety, and quality assurance.
“All pharmacies operating under the jurisdiction of MMC are hereby directed to immediately cease the sale of veterinary medicines and animal feeds, unless specifically licensed to do so as a veterinary pharmacy,” the notification stated.
MMC further warned that non-compliance with the directive would invite strict penalties, including suspension of trade licenses and other punitive actions as per relevant rules.
The notification has been issued for strict compliance by all concerned parties.
