The New Kung Fu Martial Arts Academy (NKMAA), affiliated with the Indian Kung-Fu Federation, is offering a free crash course in self-defense as part of its Silver Jubilee commemoration. The course is being held at the Multi Sports Complex in Mokokchung, from 4:30 PM onwards, running from October 16 to 26.

Participants and coaches at the free self-defense crash course offered by NKMAA in commemoration of its silver jubilee celebration.

Temsuyanger, Secretary of NKMAA and a black belt senior instructor, shared insights with Mokokchung Times about the academy’s origins. “The NKMAA started way back in 1991, and in commemoration of the silver jubilee year, we decided to give a free crash course on self-defense to children and young adults,” he said. The course is open to students aged 5 to 20, offering a unique opportunity for children and youth to engage in extracurricular activities while learning valuable self-defense techniques.

The turnout has exceeded expectations, with Temsuyanger adding, “We were expecting 40-50 participants but the response has been a pleasant surprise.” Currently, around 170 participants are enrolled in the course, far surpassing initial projections.

Looking to the future, Temsuyanger hinted at the possibility of regular classes for those interested, saying, “If the kids are interested, will start regular classes to teach New Kung Fu.”

This initiative not only commemorates the academy’s 25 years but also emphasizes its commitment to youth development and self-defense skills.
