Following the conclusion of the nomination process for the ULB elections on 11 June 2024, a total of 35 candidates officially submitted their nomination papers at the Office Chamber of the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Chumlamo Humtsoe, for the Mokokchung Municipal Council.

Among these candidates, 24 are male aspirants while 11 female contenders stepped forward to represent the 18 wards of Mokokchung. An update received here stated that the nomination filing process unfolded seamlessly, reflecting disciplined adherence to the established timeline and protocols.”

Scrutiny of nomination papers will be carried out on 13 June 13. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is 20 June, and the lists of contesting candidates and polling stations will be published on the same day. Re-poll, in any, will be conducted on 28 June. Counting of votes and declaration of results will be done on 29 June.

Meanwhile, the NDPP has secured four uncontested victories in the upcoming Mokokchung Municipal Council elections. NDPP candidates Maongtula Longchar of Alempang Ward, Imtiyapang of Aongza Ward, Imkongchuba A of Dilong Ward, and Walunila of Penli Ward have secured their positions uncontested.

Further, a total of 12 candidates each filed nominations for Tuli Town Council and Mangkolemba Town Council, while the data for Changtongya Town Council was yet to be received by this newspaper at the time of filing this news report.
