The Note Grid School of Music Mokokchung held its Advent Christmas and Felicitation Program on December 13, 2024, at Ao Temulong Kilem, marking a significant milestone in its journey since its establishment in 2021 under the LL Group. Founded by Longden Longkumer in 2010 in Dimapur, the school expanded to Mokokchung to provide children with a platform to nurture their musical talents.
The event celebrated the school’s achievements and the dedication of its students and teachers. Since its first examination in 2022, Note Grid has seen remarkable performances. In 2023, 15 students appeared for the exams, where 12 achieved distinctions and 3 secured merits. In 2024, six students took the exams, with three earning distinctions and three achieving merits. From 2022 to 2024, a total of six students received High Achiever’s Certificates. Note Grid’s outstanding performance earned the school a Certificate of Appreciation from Rock School Limited (RSL).
The felicitation address was delivered by Wabang Kichu, Councillor of the Mokokchung Municipal Council and Convenor for the Promotion of Culture and Aesthetic Aspects, Music & Arts. Encouraging the students, he said, “All cannot be winners, but all must try hard. Music is a gift; it’s inborn.” He emphasized that musical talent is unique and cannot be replicated, urging the students to work diligently and remain close to God.
Parents also shared their gratitude for the opportunities provided by Note Grid. Amenla, a lecturer in the English Department at DIET Mokokchung, expressed appreciation for the school’s role in nurturing young musicians. She shared her experience as a parent, highlighting how her son’s passion for music flourished under the professional guidance of Note Grid. Their presence is such a great thing for the children of Mokokchung, who are able to learn music in a professional manner, she emphasized. She noted that the school instills discipline and patience in students and encouraged other parents to support and be patient with their children.
A teacher’s perspective was shared by Jopongtoshi, a violin instructor, who spoke about the balance between talent and skill development. “Talent is an inborn quality and is natural, a gift from God. But talent is not something that moves by itself; it needs to be used right by whoever possesses it. Skill, on the other hand, is not natural but is developed through practice,” he explained. He stressed the importance of understanding the craft beyond technicalities, certificates, and music notes.
The program featured performances by the students of Note Grid School, showcasing their dedication and growth. The event also included a special prayer led by Pastor Monglier, Associate Pastor of MTBA, for the students and the school. Senti Imchen, Administrator of Note Grid School of Music Mokokchung, hosted the event, bringing warmth and joy to the celebration.
The Note Grid School of Music continues to make a profound impact on the lives of young musicians in Mokokchung, fostering not only talent and skills but also a love for music and a sense of discipline and dedication.
