The Mokokchung District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) has initiated preparations for a proposed “Viksit Mokokchung 2047” vision document, aligned with the visions of Viksit Nagaland and Viksit Bharat 2047.
The matter was discussed during the October DPDB meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall on October 26, under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner and DPDB vice chairman Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS.
SDO (Civil) Ajay Moktan, IAS, briefed the house on the proposed vision document and informed that Heads of Departments (HoDs) had been directed to submit comprehensive information for its preparation. However, only a few departments had submitted their inputs so far.
The Deputy Commissioner directed the departments yet to submit the required information to do so at the earliest.
The meeting also discussed the implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026. The Urban Development Officer gave a presentation on the major provisions of the rules, which came into effect on April 1, including four-stream segregation of waste at source into wet, dry, sanitary and special care waste.
Reviewing the ground situation, Verma highlighted the need to improve waste segregation to address local dumping and drainage issues. He urged DPDB members and government departments to incorporate sanitation awareness into their departmental programmes and village outreach activities.
The board also reviewed the status of government offices and quarters at Marepkong Ward. The Deputy Commissioner instructed the Land Records and Survey Officer to prepare a list of departments allotted land in the area, along with the status of the respective allotments, and submit it at the next DPDB meeting.
A draft proposal for verification committees under the Local Area Development Programme (LADP) for 2026–27 was presented by the District Planning Officer and approved by the house. The committees will cover the district’s Assembly constituencies, with designated administrative and engineering officers serving as conveners and members.
The meeting further discussed the revival of the Mokokchung District Art and Culture Council (MDACC). The District Culture Officer informed the house that the council was formed in 1988 to promote and preserve Ao Naga art, culture and traditions, and to facilitate nominations of prominent personalities for national and state Governor’s awards. The Deputy Commissioner encouraged members to propose new ideas for reviving the council.
The board also approved and recommended forwarding the registration documents of Community Care Connect, Kumlong Ward, and Salukum Rogo, Ungma, to the competent government authority for further necessary action.
The General Manager of the District Industries Centre presented an overview of the department’s centrally and state-sponsored schemes, their implementation and benefits at the district level.
The meeting was also informed that a Union Minister of State would visit Mokokchung from November 2 to 4 to meet Heads of Offices and review schemes and projects under the Central and State governments. The Deputy Commissioner directed all HoDs to be prepared for the review.
The Chief Minister of Nagaland is scheduled to visit Mokokchung on October 29 for the final match of the 25th Dr T Ao Trophy, and HoDs were requested to be present.
The next DPDB meeting will feature a presentation by the Land Records and Survey Officer.
