Mokokchung Police intercepted two trucks and apprehended four persons in the early hours of February 10, 2026, for transporting suspected smuggled areca nut without valid documents.


According to police, acting on specific information, a team intercepted two Ashok Leyland trucks bearing registration numbers NL 01 AH 5067 and NL 01 AJ 2160 at around 3 am. During inspection, the police recovered more than six tonnes of areca nut concealed in specially built hidden compartments beneath the floors of the vehicles.
The apprehended individuals have been identified as Khoyrul Islam Talukdar, 31, of Tarapur under Kalain police station in Cachar district, Assam, Md Taj Uddin, 30, of Bagaitou Part V under Patigorah police station in Assam, Jamruj Jaman Laskar, 44, of Niz Haritikar II in Rajartila district, Assam, and Dibar Hussain Barbhuiya, 32, of Vadhurpur in Hailakandi district, Assam.
Police said the drivers failed to produce any valid challan or documents for the consignment, raising suspicion that the areca nut was smuggled.
The seized items, along with the apprehended persons, were handed over to the Superintendent of Customs Preventive Force, Kohima, after completing all legal formalities, for further investigation and necessary legal action.
