The Royal Enfield Mokokchung (REM) conferred its fifth Honorary Award to the Mokokchung Press Club on 2 October. The award was “in recognition for outstanding contribution and devoted service rendered towards the upliftment of society.”

The award was presented by the chief of REM, Moatemjen, and received by Limalenden Longkumer, President, Mokokchung Press Club, at a brief award ceremony held at Top Floor Café, Mokokchung.
REM Chief, Moatemjen, while highlighting a brief background said that the REM Honorary award is given to groups, organizations and individuals in recognition of their selfless services rendered towards the welfare of society and their contributions to society.
Delivering the recipient’s speech, the President of Mokokchung Press Club (MPC) acknowledged the recognition accorded to MPC and stated that the press receives more criticism than appreciation. “Such an honorary award is rare and this is perhaps the first time that anybody has ever recognized the press in Mokokchung in this manner,” he stated.
“We have been doing our job diligently, and to the best of our ability. We receive criticism sometimes and rarely do we get recognition or appreciation for the job that we do,” he said, adding that the MPC was grateful to REM for the honorary award.
He also said that the MPC was formed primarily for the welfare of the press fraternity in Mokokchung and also for rendering service to the people and “taking Mokokchung to the world.” He said that the press in Nagaland, in 2008 when the MPC was formed and to some extend to this day, was more or less Kohima-Dimapur centric. “We realized that we have to do something on our part to bring the limelight to Mokokchung and that is how MPC came into being,” he narrated.
Saying that the press personnel were the “least paid” in Nagaland, he said that most of them were in the profession not for the incentives or remunerations but for the passion. He also appreciated REM members for their social concern and encouraged them to continue giving back to the community.
Royal Enfield Mokokchung with 30 members is a team of riders who go for adventure rides and exploration in groups or solo and also contribute and participate in community programs initiated by the district administration or organizations that are related to creating public awareness on social issues.
It is worth mentioning that Royal Enfield Mokokchung, on its foundation day, i.e. 21 July, plants trees every year to save the environment.
The award ceremony was attended by members of the Mokokchung Press Club and REM.
