10 schools participate; three students emerge to represent district at state level

Students from ten schools across Mokokchung district took part in the District Level Quiz Competition 2026, testing their knowledge of Modern Indian History, Indian Polity, and Nagaland History and Current Affairs, at the PM SHRI Mayangnokcha Government Higher Secondary School auditorium on Wednesday.

The competition saw participation from both government and private schools, with three students – Sentijungla of NI Jamir GHSS, Muili T Sangtam of Mayangnokcha GHSS and Alemwati of Queen Mary Higher Secondary School – selected to represent Mokokchung district at the state-level quiz competition.

Students and organisers after the District Level Quiz Competition 2026 at PM SHRI Mayangnokcha Government Higher Secondary School, Mokokchung, on Wednesday, November 4.

In the school-wise results, NI Jamir GHSS secured the first position, followed by Mayangnokcha GHSS in second place and Queen Mary Higher Secondary School in third.

The ten participating schools were PM SHRI Mayangnokcha GHSS, Senayangba GHSS, NI Jamir GHSS, Town HSS, Clark Memorial HSS, Christian Residential HSS, Hill View HSS, Queen Mary HSS, Jubilee Memorial School and Model HSS.

The questions, set by teachers of NI Jamir GHSS, covered three broad areas: Modern Indian History, Indian Polity, and Nagaland History and Current Affairs. Teachers said the questions were designed not merely to test students for examinations but also to help them develop a better factual understanding of the subjects.

Speaking to MT, special guest Dr Madhavi R, IAS, Assistant Commissioner, Mokokchung, described the competition as a “great initiative”, saying such platforms encourage curiosity and help students develop the habit of questioning. She said education should not be limited to the classroom and described the competition as an important opportunity for students to gain exposure and learn from one another.

She also highlighted the importance of including Nagaland History in the competition, saying it helped students understand their roots and identity and learn from the past. Appreciating the quality of questions, she said some of the tougher questions reminded her of her own preparation for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination, while expressing happiness at seeing students answer them well.

Teachers observed that the participation of ten schools marked a good turnout this year, with private schools also joining the competition. They attributed the increased participation to the efforts of District Education Officer and District Coordinator Arenla. Students who spoke to MT said the competition encouraged them to read more books and acquire knowledge beyond their prescribed textbooks.

The competition was sponsored by the Department of Parliamentary Affairs, Government of Nagaland, Kohima.

The program was chaired by Imyatetla, PGT, and began with an invocation by Nungsangmenla, GT. Dr Madhavi R, IAS, Assistant Commissioner, Mokokchung, attended as special guest, while Limanichet, AIT, served as quizmaster and Akumyanger, VI, as timekeeper. It was coordinated by Arenla, District Coordinator and District Education Officer, Mokokchung.
