The NDPP Mokokchung Region registered an incredible success rate in Mokokchung district as six of the seven candidates it fielded defeated their opponents with a comfortable margin of votes.
Talking to Mokokchung Times, N Bendang Jamir, President of NDPP Mokokchung Division said that they are “very happy” and that they performed better than expected.
“We thank the people for supporting the party. The challenge is in performing and delivering governance according to the people’s desire. We will try our best and thus, in the meantime, we hope and appeal to the public that we will go hand in hand with the government,” he said.
In terms of prospective cabinet seats, the NDPP Mokokchung Region president stated that they would want to ask for at least two cabinet ministerial berths from Mokokchung, “if possible.”
“But it is upon the party high command. We will request our CM Rio to take our suggestion into consideration,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party won with a clean sweep as all three candidates it ran won their respective seats.
“It must be the will of God, we are happy and thankful,” BJP Mokokchung President Imolemba said and informed that further discussions will be taken within the party together with the party president with regard to the prospective cabinet portfolio.
The notable winners from the district are Temjen Imna Along (BJP) from 30-Alongtaki AC, Tongpang Ozukum (NDPP) from 24-Angetyongpang AC, Metsubo Jamir (NDPP) from 27-Mokokchung Town AC, Imkong L Imchen (BJP) from 28-Koridang AC, Saringain Longkumer (NDPP) from 26-Aonglenden AC and former Minister, Nuklutoshi (NPP) from 22-Arkakong AC.
The new faces elected to the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly from Mokokchung are: A Pangjung Jamir (BJP) from 21-Tuli AC, TN Mannen (NDPP) from 23-Impur AC, Imkongmar (NDPP) from 25-Mongoya AC and Temjenmenba (NDPP) from 29-Jangpetkong AC.
Of the 10 assembly constituencies in the district, the ruling NDPP-BJP alliance won 9 seats while Nuklutoshi of NPP is the lone successful candidate from the non-NDPP-BJP parties.
