33 participants representing Mokokchung District depart for Kohima

 

In a bid to showcase their badminton prowess, a contingent of 33 players and 2 support staff from Mokokchung District set off for the Li Ning 45th Inter District & State Open Badminton Championship 2023. The championship, scheduled to commence on Monday, has attracted participants from across Nagaland and is being held at the Nagaland Legislative Assembly Stadium, Kohima.

Led by Team Manager S Bendang Imchen and Team Coach Sashiwapang, the Mokokchung District Badminton Association left for Kohima on Sunday morning. The contingent comprises 15 boys and 18 girls, who will compete in a total of seven categories spanning various age groups and disciplines.

 

The categories in which the Mokokchung players will participate include U-9 Singles (Boys & Girls), U-11 Singles & Doubles (Boys & Girls), U-13 Singles & Doubles (Boys & Girls), U-15 Singles & Doubles (Boys & Girls), U-17 Singles & Doubles (Boys & Girls), Junior (U-19) Singles, Doubles & Mixed Doubles (Boys & Girls), and Senior Singles, Doubles & Mixed Doubles (Boys & Girls).

 

The Li Ning 45th Inter District & State Open Badminton Championship 2023 holds special significance as it marks the Golden Jubilee year of the Nagaland Badminton Association. Over 300 players from 16 districts, along with representatives from the Nagaland Police, are expected to participate in the tournament. The event will also see the presence of more than 150 team and technical officials.

 

Nagaland Legislative Assembly Speaker Sharingain Longkumer will inaugurate the championship at 10 AM, signaling the commencement of a week filled with thrilling badminton action. The tournament is set to conclude on the 14th of July, during which players will compete fiercely to secure top honors in their respective categories.

 

The Mokokchung District Badminton Association expressed confidence in their players’ abilities and hoped that they would excel in their matches, displaying outstanding sportsmanship and representing their district with pride.
