In a commendable display of civic responsibility, the Sungratsu Students’ Union (SSU) has taken up the task of repairing the main village road, a stretch over 2 kilometers from the second gate to the cemetery. The initiative, which began on May 24, is now in its final phase as of June 12.

According to SSU President Tekameren Aier, the road was last repaired in 2014 and has since deteriorated much, becoming riddled with potholes and posing a daily challenge to commuters and students alike.

Recognizing the urgency of the issue, the SSU resolved during an executive meeting to undertake the road repair as a social responsibility project for the welfare of the villagers, he informed.

Aier expressed gratitude to the generous individuals, clans, the Watsu Telen of Sungratsu village, and the  Sungratsu  Baptist  Church for their contributions in both cash and kind—including donations of firewood, asphalt, and bitumen. “Because of these well-wishers, we were able to begin work without delay,” he stated.

Emphasizing the importance of proactive community efforts, he said, “As a student body, we must take the initiative on social causes instead of waiting for the concerned authorities to respond. Proper roads are a basic necessity for a community to progress.”

The SSU president also lauded the overwhelming volunteer spirit of the student members. Male volunteers actively participated in the asphalt preparation and manual pothole filling using basic tools, while female volunteers took charge of sweeping and preparing the road surface for repair.
