16 cameras installed to enhance community vigilance and curb anti-social activities
The Sungkomen Ward Surveillance Camera Activation and Dedication Program was held on Saturday, May 31 at Peniel Hall, Sungkomen Baptist Church, Mokokchung. The initiative aims to enhance community vigilance and deter anti-social activities in the locality.
Temsukaba Kichu, Convenor of the Surveillance Camera Installation Committee and Advisor to the Sungkomen Youth Organization (SYO), shared that the idea was first discussed in 2022 during Tsükjemwabang’s presidency of Sungkomen Youth Organization SYO.
“In December 2024, the ward Yimden adopted the installation project as an official agenda during the General Meeting,” Kichu said. A fundraising feast was organized on December 12, 13, and 14 to generate additional support for the initiative.
Kichu expressed his appreciation to the neighboring Tongdentsüyong Ward Councillors and youths, Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem (MTLT) and also the Dilong Youth Association for their support. “It has become necessary to install surveillance cameras to keep a check on anti-social activity and also to stay vigilant,” he said.
He added that successful installation required not just funds but logistical support such as electrification, Wi-Fi access, and suitable locations for mounting the equipment.
“Seven households generously offered their homes to host the cameras and equipment,” he said, acknowledging the various forms of contributions made by residents.
Sungkomen Ward Chairman, Yangerjungba, commended the youth association for spearheading the initiative. “The agenda was introduced by SYO in 2022 and was wholeheartedly accepted by the Yimden. Due to financial constraints, we couldn’t act on it immediately. But with the full support of the Yimden, SYO carried the responsibility forward, and today we see the results,” he stated.
He also lauded the Sungkomen Baptist Church for its continued support, calling it a “socially concerned church” and adding that the ward functions more smoothly because of the church’s involvement.
Imrongkumba Aier, President of SYO, also extended gratitude to the committee and contributors.
