Mokokchung, October 3 (MTNews): There was confusion and an unusual sight of congestion in the taxi stands of Mokokchung town on early Monday morning as passengers travelling to other places were stranded and their journeys delayed by about two and half hours.

As reported by this newspaper on Monday, the All Nagaland Taxi Association (ANTA) had ‘centralized’ all the regional taxi services with effect from October 1, much against the will of most taxi vehicle and ticket counter owners. This conflict of interest among members of the same industry caused much inconvenience to the passengers Monday morning as regular taxi services were disrupted.

Only eight Sumo taxis bound for Dimapur left Mokokchung on Monday morning while all others stayed back. As taxis bound for Kohima were cancelled, the passengers were reimbursed their tickets’ worth. However, some passengers traveling for urgent matters were found arranging their own mode of conveyance to Kohima.

While the ANTA Mokokchung Unit offered to make necessary arrangements for regular taxi service, the taxi vehicle owners and ticket counter owners maintained that no taxi tickets would be sold from Tuesday until the rift between them and ANTA is resolved.
