A tragic road accident near Police Point at Mokokchung Compound on Saturday morning, 29 March, claimed the life of a six-year-old girl and left her mother seriously injured, police said.

According to a report from SDPO Mokokchung, initial inquiries suggested that the accident occurred around 10:30 AM when a Bolero pick-up vehicle, reportedly carrying 2000 liters of water, collided with a roadside mound, causing it to plunge backward.
The victims, identified as Mrs Akangmongla (40), and her daughter, Miss Imtemen (6), sustained severe injuries. Police confirmed that Miss Imtemen succumbed to her injuries at Imkongmeren Memorial District Hospital, Mokokchung.
“Post-mortem examination upon the deceased was refused by the family. After completion of necessary legal procedures, the body of Miss. Intemen was handed over to her family members,” said the statement.
The driver of the vehicle, Rongsennuken (28), from Kapayong Sector, has been arrested and rema ins in police custody, according to the statement.
In connection with this incident, a regular case has been registered at Mokokchung Police Station-I for further investigation.
