Mokokchung, 3 October (MTNews): In a tragic accident that occurred at approximately 6:40 am on 3 October 2023, a dumper truck met with a fatal accident near New Camp, Mokokchung resulting in the loss of a life. This information came to light through a suo moto FIR filed by ASI Sangpang at Police Station II, Mokokchung.
According to the FIR, authorities received information about a dumper truck accident near New Camp around the aforementioned time. Accordingly, as directed by superior officers, ASI Sangpang and PS team proceeded to the Place of Occurrence (PO).
Upon arrival at PO, it was revealed that a dumper truck, bearing registration number AS 01 MC 1092, heavily laden with sand and bricks, was en route to Mokokchung when it veered off the road and plunged approximately 70 to 80 feet below the roadway.
Tragically, the sole occupant and driver of the dumper truck, identified as Lt Watsulo Rengma, was fatally crushed under the vehicle in the incident.
Efforts to retrieve the deceased were launched with a combined team of police personnel and Traffic officers, assisted by members of the general public, successfully recovering the body. The deceased was subsequently transferred to the Out Post in New Camp.
However, it was reported that the family declined the request for a postmortem examination, and after adhering to all necessary legal formalities, the deceased’s body was handed over to the grieving relatives.
A case has been registered for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding this tragic accident.
