The ‘Mega Job Expo 2024 – Connecting Careers,’ organized by the Mokokchung District Planning and Development Board and the District Skill Committee (DSC), culminated today with thousands of prospective job seekers turning up for the two-day event. A first-of-its-kind event in Mokokchung, the expo was organized in partnership with the Business Association of Nagas (BAN), Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN), and Fazl Ali College.
Er Imlisunep Ao, secretary of the expo’s planning committee, commented that the event was a success, with participants from other districts also showing great interest. While stating that the efforts of the Mokokchung DPDB and DSC did not go in vain, he said that more such events should be organized from time to time to help curb the problem of unemployment in the state.
“There are recruiters ready with hundreds of jobs, eager to recruit our people, but the problem is that we lack the required skills, which makes us unemployable,” he said. Emphasizing the need to focus on skilling children and students, he explained that it is an important component toward personal and professional success and contributes to holistic growth and employability.
The Vice-principal of Fazl Ali College, Vinod Kumar, also said that the Job Expo is the need of the hour to address the problem of unemployment in the state. “This mega job expo has not only provided jobs but has given avenues for skill training, which is very much essential,” he said. “The response was very good, and we hope to organize such events in the coming years also, which will help the people of the region; it will be good for the development of Nagaland and to boost the economy if people can get jobs,” he added.
Repatoshi, a job seeker who participated in the expo, said it was a “good experience with a good pack of opportunities,” while confessing that he expected “more recruitments and interviews rather than seminars,” especially in the financial sector. “I am not saying there was none, but just I expected more,” he added.
“Introducing career opportunities for the job applicants in different corporations, the mega job expo has acted as an eye-opener for society as a whole,” Merenchila, another participant at the event remarked. “The DPDB and DSC have indeed succeeded in taking a step forward in educating the literates to be self-sufficient in their own respective fields of discipline,” she added.
Langpho Konyak, another participant, said it was a good experience. “We learned so much, and it is an innovative start for unemployed youth,” said, adding that it creates lots of job opportunities and thanked the organizers for the initiative.
“This was our first-ever job Expo, and I will admit, I was a little nervous at first just because I didn’t know what to expect. However, the experience was wonderful! It was very well organized, and I was able to reach out to and speak with experts and professionals from different spectrums. It was a very wonderful experience and indeed really helpful,” a job seeker, Pursunep, shared while thanking the individuals and organizations involved in organizing the expo. “It was a big success,” he exclaimed.
The first Mokokchung Mega Job Expo was held at Fazl Ali College, drawing over a thousand job seekers and 28 recruiting firms. Apart from Mokokchung, at least 35 job seekers from Shamator district and 45 from Mon district also attended the expo.
