Mokokchung-based alternative, math rock and post-hardcore band Stereo Groove has announced the release of its new single, Ascend, along with an accompanying music video on June 15.
The release marks the band’s return after its last music release in 2024 and comes with a refreshed lineup comprising Along Jamir (vocals), Ayoung Jamir (guitar), Wapang Walling (guitar), Lima Imsong (drums), and Wabang Jamir (bass).
Speaking to Mokokchung Times, the band described Ascend as a song about resilience and personal struggle.
“This song is about looking strong on the outside while struggling inside. It’s about hitting a breaking point, facing your fears, and realizing that falling isn’t the end, it’s part of becoming stronger,” the band said.
“In the end, it’s about finding your fire again and taking back control of who you are,” it added.
The band also said that it is currently focused on releasing singles rather than working on a full-length album.
“We’re not planning on releasing a full album anytime soon. For now, we’re focusing on creating and releasing singles and possibly a few EPs down the road. We want to keep putting out music consistently and sharing new sounds with you all,” the members said.
The song was recorded at TS Records, Alichen, while the music video was shot in Yimchalu, Mokokchung, with Wapong Aier as videographer. The band said it wrote and produced its own music.
The members also expressed confidence in the current lineup, saying the band has finally found stability after undergoing several lineup changes over the years.
