The Mon District Congress Committee (DCC) on Tuesday opposed the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, alleging that 5,589 voters had been deleted from the electoral roll in Mon district and calling for greater public vigilance over the process.

Mon Congress alleges 5,589 voters deleted from electoral roll during SIR
Mon District Congress Committee members at a press conference opposing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, alleging the deletion of 5,589 voters in Mon district.

Addressing a press conference, Mon DCC president Er T Thomas Konyak said the revision was being carried out without adequate preparation and alleged that it was intended to divert public attention from pressing issues such as price rise and national security.

“This is a huge loss for the people of Mon district,” he said, adding that the number of deleted voters was substantial for a district in a state like Nagaland, as it was equivalent to the number of voters in an Assembly constituency in some parts of the state.

Konyak urged citizens, intellectuals and particularly young people to remain vigilant about the revision. He also expressed concern over the working conditions of Booth Level Officers (BLOs), saying they had not been given sufficient time to complete the exercise while continuing their regular teaching duties.

He said the party stood in solidarity with BLOs across Mon district and Nagaland, and accused the state’s ruling party of ignoring their difficulties.

The press conference was held under the directive of the All India Congress Committee and the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee as part of a nationwide protest against the SIR, under the theme “Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao” (Save Vote, Save Nation).

Konyak said the Mon DCC had also been invited to participate in a protest in New Delhi on November 1 and would attend.

Those present included former Tapi Assembly Constituency Congress candidate and PCC member Wanglem Konyak, DCC general secretary (administration) Laiwan Konyak, District Mahila Congress president Thiangli Konyak, District Youth Congress president Manai Konyak and District Mahila Congress vice-president Mailam Konyak.
