Mon District in Nagaland has been selected as one of the 100 Aspirational Agricultural Districts under the Prime Minister Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana (PMDDKY), according to a letter from the Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, to Lok Sabha MP S Supongmeren Jamir.

The selection is part of the Government of India’s Union Budget 2025-26 announcement to develop 100 Aspirational Agricultural Districts over a six-year period beginning with 2025-26. The Union Cabinet approved PMDDKY on 16 July 2025, and the formal launch of the scheme is expected in October 2025.

“I am happy to share that the district Mon has been selected under your Lok Sabha constituency in the state of Nagaland,” Chouhan wrote.

The districts were chosen based on three key indicators: low crop productivity, low cropping intensity, and limited short-term credit disbursement. PMDDKY aims to enhance agricultural productivity, promote crop diversification, encourage sustainable agricultural practices, improve irrigation facilities, augment post-harvest storage at the panchayat and block levels, and facilitate both short-term and long-term credit availability.

The scheme will address gaps in the identified districts by converging existing programs of the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and other allied ministries, in partnership with the states. Committees will be formed at the district, state, and national levels to ensure effective planning, implementation, and monitoring. At the district level, the Deputy Commissioner will oversee the preparation of action plans in consultation with stakeholders and the execution of the scheme. Performance will be tracked through a dashboard with defined Key Performance Indicators.

Chouhan expressed confidence that MP S Supongmeren Jamir’s leadership would help district authorities implement PMDDKY smoothly. Chouhan added that operational guidelines and instructions are being issued to all Chief Secretaries to support effective coordination and ensure the success of the scheme.
