The ongoing construction of the Mon Medical College is on track to meet its November 2026 deadline, according to a press release issued by Minister for Health and Family Welfare, P Paiwang Konyak. The minister reviewed the ongoing construction works on Saturday, providing an update on the project’s progress.
“The construction of the state’s second medical college in Mon has reached 25% of physical progress, and it is expected to be completed within the given time frame of November 2026,” the update stated.
The medical college, being built on 93 acres of land, comes with an estimated cost of INR 325 crore, funded at a 90:10 ratio. The facility aims to improve healthcare infrastructure and medical education in the region, complementing the Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (NIMSR) in Kohima. The campus will feature state-of-the-art infrastructure, including a helipad.
Minister Konyak was accompanied by the Commissioner and Secretary for Health and Family Welfare, the Principal Director, department officials, district and police administration officials, and Konyak Union leaders during the site visit.
Contractors briefed the minister and his team on the progress of the project. Er. Akang Jamir, one of the contractors, confirmed that the construction is on track to be completed by November 2026.
“As per the current physical progress and time schedules, the project should be completed within the stipulated time frame,” he stated.
Er Jamir also informed that the total sanctioned cost for the project is INR 325 crore, with a 90:10 funding ratio. The state government has already received INR 242.5 crore of the central share, with 10% financial progress and 25% physical progress reported.
He thanked the Konyak Civil Societies, Mon villagers, and the village councils for their ongoing support, ensuring the smooth continuation of the construction work.
The foundation stone for the Mon Medical College was laid by Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan on February 26, 2021.
Minister Paiwang Konyak reviews healthcare infrastructure at District Hospital Mon
The Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Paiwang Konyak, visited the District Hospital in Mon on 23rd November 2024. The Minister extended his gratitude to the CMO, doctors, and staff for their hard work and warm welcome. He also acknowledged the presence of the civil societies and the district administration led by the ADC.
He informed that his visit was not just a routine official tour but had a purpose: to assess the shortcomings of the department regarding infrastructure and development work at the hospital. He highlighted the shortage of medical doctors, particularly specialist doctors, in the state, and assured that the government is doing its best to address the issue.
The Minister further stated that the main objective of his visit was to oversee food safety and drug control in the district. He appealed to the civil societies to cooperate for the welfare of the people.
Earlier, the Minister also released the Quarterly Access, Issue-1 (July 2024 to September 2024), of the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Mon, Nagaland.
The Minister was accompanied by the Commissioner & Secretary, Additional Director, Principal Director, and senior doctors from the Department of Health & Family Welfare.
