Health and Family Welfare Minister P Paiwang Konyak has directed the executing agency to expedite the remaining works of the Mon Medical College (MMC) and ensure timely completion of the project.

Paiwang issued the direction during an inspection of the ongoing construction on Wednesday. Executive Engineer Er Therouovituo Pienyu informed the visiting team that around 65 percent of the project had been completed, while the contractor has sought an extension of approximately eight months.
The project faced delays due to a limited working season, prolonged adverse weather and landslides that disrupted transportation of construction materials for more than two months.
Paiwang stressed that the District Hospital, designated as the teaching hospital for MMC, must have all essential infrastructure, facilities and services required for medical education and patient care.
The team inspected the proposed water source, helipad and various academic, residential and support facilities. Major structures include the medical college and administrative blocks, hostels, residences, staff quarters and autopsy block. The indoor sports complex, nursing college and guest house are nearing completion.
The team also visited District Hospital and later met Mon Village Council and landowners to discuss matters related to the project.
