The first two quarterfinal matches of the Mokokchung Inter Ward Football Tournament 2025 were played today at the Imkongmeren Sports Complex, with Mongsenbai and Dilong wards securing their spots in the semifinals.
In the first quarterfinal, Mongsenbai edged past Majakong ward with a solitary goal. Tiatoshi netted the winner in the 21st minute, and the former champions held their ground to deny Majakong an equalizer. The match saw its share of disciplinary action, with Limasunep of Mongsenbai receiving a caution in the first half. As Majakong pushed desperately for an equalizer, tensions escalated, resulting in yellow cards for Mongsenbai’s Imshimong, Majakong’s defender Takawati, and goalkeeper Kajenkaba in the closing minutes.
The second quarterfinal between Tongdentsuyong and Dilong wards ended in a goalless stalemate, leading to a penalty shootout. Dilong emerged victorious with a 4-3 win after Tongdentsuyong faltered on two attempts. Limatongzuk opened the shootout with a successful strike for Tongdentsuyong, but Molungnen missed his shot. Subongkumba and Toshimongba converted their penalties, but Lanutemsu’s miss sealed their fate as Dilong flawlessly executed all four of their attempts. Moa Imchen, Temsuyanger, Takutoba, and goalkeeper Imtisashi not only saved a penalty but also found the net to secure Dilong’s place in the semis.
Mongsenbai and Dilong will now face off in the first semifinal on April 2.
