In the inaugural edition of the Nagaland Olympics in 2017, hosted in Dimapur, Mokokchung secured the 5th position on the medal tally, boasting an impressive 12 gold medals among the 11 participating districts. However, the narrative took a different turn in the 2022 Nagaland Olympic & Paralympic Games held in Kohima, where Mokokchung, surprisingly, failed to secure a single gold medal, finishing 12th among the 16 participating districts across 11 sports.
As the upcoming games approach, featuring an expanded roster of 16 sports, it is widely expected that traditional powerhouses Kohima, Dimapur, and Phek will dominate the medal standings.
