Mokokchung, August 5 (MTNews): The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has announced the ‘Good Samaritan Scheme’ to motivate the general public to help road accident victims during emergencies. Under the scheme, anyone who saves the life of a fatal road accident victim by administering immediate assistance and rushing them to the hospital within the “Golden Hour” will be awarded.

 

The scheme came into effect on October 15, 2021, and it will continue to operate until the end of the 15th financial cycle, or March 31, 2026, an update from DPRO Office Mokokchung informed.

 

Each Good Samaritan will receive a reward of Rs. 5000 per incident. In addition, 10 National Level Awards worth Rs. 1 lakh each will be awarded to the most worthy Good Samaritans who will be selected from all those who have received awards during the year, it was informed.

 

The Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, Chief Medical Officer, and Regional/District Transport Officer make up the district-level appraisal committee, which will use a consistent and uniform format of acknowledgment.

 

Before submitting to the Transport Department for the release of the cash award, the Appraisal Committee, chaired by the Deputy Commissioner, will scrutinize the details of the Good Samaritan and the incident.
