On September 11, 2024, Konyak Union (Myanmar) General Secretary, K Akham Honwang, met with General Ningkhan Shimray MC, MV Longvibu, Naga Army, and Coordinator of the Mount Veda Peace Mission. During the meeting, Honwang expressed gratitude on behalf of the Eastern Konyak public for Shimray’s concerns regarding the public’s well-being. The interaction took place as part of the Union’s efforts to understand NSCN-IM’s objectives in the Eastern Konyak region.
The public of Eastern Konyak has noted the NSCN/GPRN-IM’s presence in the region, raising questions about whether they are mobilizing for shelter or aiming to rebuild peace and unity for the Naga Nation. Honwang highlighted the public’s appreciation for two significant events in 2024: the NSCN/GPRN Republic Day on March 31 and Naga Independence Day on August 14. These events were celebrated with sports and games for the youth of the Konyak region, the first of their kind to be openly organized by the NSCN/GPRN-IM’s Mount Veda Peace Mission.
During the interaction, General Ningkhan Shimray emphasized that the NSCN-IM’s return to the Eastern Konyak region is a step toward healing past conflicts and divisions among Naga National leaders. He reflected on the long-standing slogan, “Nagaland for Christ,” and the challenges faced by the Naga self-determination movement due to internal divisions. Shimray confirmed that the NSCN-IM leadership, under the Mount Veda Peace Mission, is actively working to reconcile differences and create lasting peace among the various Naga factions, including those within the NSCN/GPRN-K.
The Mount Veda Peace Mission has been instrumental in engaging with NSCN/GPRN-K factions and fostering dialogue to resolve conflicts. According to Shimray, the mission’s goals go beyond resolving infighting; they aim to bring peace and charity to all Naga areas, particularly recognizing the sacrifices of the Eastern Naga people for the Naga Nation.
Shimray further stated that the NSCN-IM would continue to stand for the entire Naga people and territory, reaffirming that Eastern Nagalim is a key region in the Naga struggle. The area, historically crucial to the formation of NSCN/GPRN, is remembered for the support and sacrifices of the Eastern Naga people during past struggles.
Shimray emphasized that the NSCN-IM’s mission in Eastern Nagalim is focused on forgiveness, unity, and charity. He assured the public that there would be no demands for contributions in the name of the Naga National Movement, as the group seeks to give back to the people. Shimray reiterated that the ultimate goal is to unite the various Naga factions and establish a unified Naga Nation.
The Konyak Union (Myanmar) urged all Naga National Workers to remember the sacrifices of the innocent people and work towards peace and unity, as demonstrated by the Mount Veda Peace Mission.
