Nagaland MP S Supongmeren Jamir has urged the Union Government to strengthen infrastructure and academic facilities at the College of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry, Jalukie, Peren, a constituent college of the Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal.
Raising the issue during Zero Hour in Parliament, Jamir appealed to the Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying to sanction key developmental projects for the institution, including the construction of a Veterinary Clinical Complex, upgradation of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnostic (VLD) facilities, and introduction of Veterinary Telemedicine and Mobile Animal Health initiatives.
Jamir highlighted the growing importance of veterinary education, animal healthcare and livestock development, stating that the proposed interventions would improve the quality of veterinary training and strengthen animal health services in the region.
“Investment in veterinary education is essential for improving livestock productivity, ensuring food security, and creating employment opportunities in the rural economy,” he said.
The MP noted that students from across the country are enrolled at the Jalukie veterinary college and said improved infrastructure would benefit students while helping the institution emerge as one of India’s leading veterinary colleges.
He further stated that strengthening facilities at the college would support national development goals by enhancing capacity building in the livestock sector and improving outreach services for animal health management.
